Embracing Resilience: Dancing Towards Climate Adaptation

Dancing for Climate Adaptation Ideas:

A few days ago an incredible Climate Resiliency Idea popped into my head while celebrating another idea that I thought about the night before and I was very happy about it. The other idea will be shared in time within the Climate Adaptation Book Club Community. So the idea I developed that deals directly with our ‘dancing!

Let me explain if I may:

When I am happy and want to celebrate I sing, dance and/or drum or all three at the same time. In any event I notice the more I do this along with other focused (more serious) activities it flowers new fresh ideas. For instance this idea below developed as indicated as I danced celebrating yet another idea.

So many people are going into retirement right now and many are arriving here in a very unhealthy state. Years from eating processed foods designed by some of these very food industry to be unhealthy and highly addictive and to top it off probably with the assistance of those unethical pharmaceutical companies that stand to gain from ones ill-health, I don’t think this assumption is too far off.

Now that the Climate Emergency is worsening and many are going to be engrossed in mitigating and cleaning-up messes caused by it, some necessary support for seniors and the disable might become limited or worse (unavailable in crucial instances). When seniors retire their gifts and skills for the most part retire with them. These passions, gifts and skills then become potentially unavailable.

The prestigious climate organization for seniors, Th!rd Act actually receives credit for this idea actually as they know this first-hand and encourage older folks to join them bringing these gifts, skills and passions to the front in order to help tackle our Climate Emergency and realize a sustainable health planet for our children and young-adults.

So I thought why not create an online ‘dance’ studio specifically as part of an ‘Adaptive Resiliency’ strategy and who says ‘Adaptive Resiliency’ has to be hum-drum and boring as it can be extremely creative and even fun.

Cities & States:

We could create in each city/state even an organized online venue where older folks who cannot always leave their homes for obvious reasons, but who are mobile at home can participate in, such as dancing, seminars sessions, dialogue sessions, skill sharing sessions, book clubs, and more with the help of young adults and children. These focus on improving or keeping fit in regards to physical and mental alertness activities. The primary underpinning being tackling our shared Climate Emergency by becoming (or staying) healthy and mentally alert as both the mind (mental health) and body are key.

Cities and/or States can initiate this organized online venue as a way to mitigate Climate Emergencies and even enlist healthier retired citizen’s to moderate and run this endeavor. This could offer them a stipend salary as most of it can even pay for itself by charging a small subscription or registration fee.

Listen is only an idea but think of this in another way such as a resiliency and adaption measure where older folks are more prepared for climatic emergencies. For instance, if you have a flood or fire and Emergency Services and Law-Enforcement could be extremely busy, so you have seniors at home or in senior care facilities and imagine many (of course not all) being healthy and mentally alert (from benefiting from this idea) and take immediate action to help those who cannot help themselves, this will decrease a the strain on those emergency and support services that are overwhelmed.

We should be able to retire with opportunities to share our skills, passions and gifts. We should strive to become Climate Warriors until the moment we depart to rest and to do that we need to become and/or stay as healthy and mentally alert as possible. There will be times when help might be too busy to get to us and when this happens we rely on those in our immediate environment that are healthy and mentally alert.

I had an argument once with someone who indicated that it was nonsense that things would worsen in regard to our shared Climate Emergency, however I can tell you with confidence that the types of storms and weather conditions we will face in the future will require creativity and strength that is healthy and mentally alert to tackle

I might be mocked for some of my ideas, however I will tell you that at crucial moments some of these ideas will come in handy. We must start thinking out of the box and being proactive (recognizing future effects) and we must do it based on compassion and empathy and not thinking something will work out when we all know that is not always the case.

So yes my idea is for us to dance towards a stronger healthier ‘Adaptive Resiliency’ type of disposition. I am a firm believer that tackling our shared Climate Emergency together should have no limitations of age, race, lack of skills, passion or gifts (actually everyone has a gift to offer—everyone) that can be truly beneficial towards tackling our shared Climate Emergency with the tools needed which come from within us and for many of us (older folks) these are based on years of experience.

(I think there is no coincidence probably that I wrote this in a women’s hair salon surrounded by beautifully and youthfully spirited older women.)

Addendum: Relatives fighting for their Children’s Future!

One would be amazed at how many aunts, uncles, grand-parents, and other relatives that work relentlessly towards preserving a habitable sustainable extinction-free planet for our children. They have a very strong personal stake in this and I know this first-hand.

I am a grand-father, an uncle, have friends with children that I will bend over backward to protect—this I am sure is something that 99.9% of you reading this will relate to. It doesn’t matter what you do for a living and what you think of what others think, we all can relate that children and young-adults are a priority.

Our children will inherit the effects of what we do today and not only that will have to deal with the resources that will be available. They will have to maneuver around polluted waters and air, nuclear waste that must be contained for thousands of years to come and what is truly frightening is dealing with damaged soil.

I will be presenting some ideas that move us away from the defacto (things were this way because they were always this way). Life on Earth for our children’s and young adult’s future will be a direct result of what we do today. You wonder why Climate Organizations and individuals are so vocal and active in confronting those who are working to steer us towards a world ruled by greed and need (for power or to maintain it).

So if you find that you cannot relate to this content because you find that you are in this world without connections to children as relatives or otherwise then perhaps you can think of the time when you were a child and how important it was for you to explore, enjoy your environment and wonder about things.

So please consider your current standing, do you want to see a world that is considerate and passionate about leaving something for all our children that is valuable or do you want to gain power and control in order to enforce ideas that might get us in hot water as the conditions of our shared Climate Emergency worsens.

It always brings tears to my eyes when I hear of children and women being hurt or worse. The thought of losing so many people in Gaza genocide is truly disturbing and although every life is precious and a gift losing them has one other implications we really need to consider this is why I might not be popular but I believe everyone has a purpose, a mission.

So when lives are taken you take a gift that is embedded in their life, now this gift might be something that would have benefited us in the form of inventions and innovations to tackle or end our shared Climate Emergency. When you take any life it is truly sad and depressing but it also includes taking a gift, a potential that might have been for the person(s) or country taking these lives.

As an example: A young girl was killed on her way school by a racist group years ago in the South and this girl should she have lived would have invented a device that took polluted air or water and transformed it. We do not know people’s destiny, mission or gifts—we simply don’t and when we remove this person(s) from this planet we do not evolve as we become much more stagnant or worse regress.

The idea that taking innocent boys, devoted (to family or otherwise) men and especially Women and Girls lives for retaliation or even war purposes is truly despicable and shows that we have not evolved and have little value for our fellow human beings lives. Doing things like this just increases enemies and puts ones country and/or environment in further (and future) danger.

I hope everything I wrote is not too far off or removed from reality, however we must also focus correctly on the ‘cause and effect’ of what happens to us, our country our citizens, etc… Meaning what part have we played in making the situation worse by not standing up with integrity or conviction by speaking up and out for our children’s and young adults future?

I want to send an appreciative thank you to both Al Gore and Bill McKibben (hosted by Th!rd Act) for that amazing webinar earlier this month and Mr. Gore you presentation on how we older folks should be an inspiration (mentors) for our youth less they fall into the rabbit hole of insanity was very to the point and really hit home that we not only protect their future but prepare them to face the mess they will inherit.

Be well, be healthy and by all means be safe. Of course I am doing just that by focusing on the topic of ‘Adaptive Resiliency.’
