Art is not just for viewing; it is for growing too.
I hope everyone reading this is well, safe, and secure, especially given how devastating our Climate Emergency has become for many of us now.
I would like to discuss art and my creative change of direction going forward. I create both quoted image expressions (in the form of social media-sized art posts) and share images customized to the dimensions required for the majority of social media outlets such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (X).
Much of my art has been directed at fossil fuel companies, their hired-hands, the anti-science crowd, and climate deniers. However, I now want to share solutions, advice, perspectives, outlooks, ideas, and more in a creative way—anything that helps us tackle our shared Climate Emergency.
I have typically posted to the three social media outlets mentioned above, but I have also posted to other platforms in the past. I am thinking of still posting at these outlets, but now focusing predominantly within my own community by creating a dedicated space.
The URL will probably be combined with the blog space with completely ‘Free’ access. The platform that will host this has been set up as a redirect using climatetribe.com. It is not live yet, but after some time, one will see dialog boxes to choose which spaces they want. For example, I will set up the blog and art groups with free access, while everything else will require a yearly financial subscription.
One point about the art I will be posting: I am working hard on ending my sense of political partisanship. This means I will vote for a Republican, Green Party member, etc., as long as they align with my environmental concerns. My morals and values are based on leaving a habitable, sustainable, extinction-free planet for our children, and my vote will always go to those who share these values, regardless of their party.
Some of my older artwork reflects partisanship, but this will eventually taper off completely. I really want to focus on what we can do to improve humanity while protecting our biodiversity and children’s future.
One final note: I have scaled back on reading books about the worst-case scenarios of the Climate Emergency and instead picked up a book on ‘Human Revolution,’ which means transforming oneself for the better on a fundamental level through helping others do likewise, by Daisaku Ikeda. I must say, our individual Human Revolution is what is truly needed in the world today. While I will not be sharing any quotes or content from these, I will be highlighting quotes that relate to them.
As Daisaku Ikeda says, “A great revolution of character in just a single individual will help achieve a change in the destiny of a nation and further, can even enable a change in the destiny of all humankind.”
I believe we must give optimism and hope before we can truly experience and feel it ourselves. These are not selfish concepts; hope and optimism are meant to be shared to give them meaning and life.
Addendum
You know why I changed my view about partisan politics and now embrace anyone from any party who shares my environmental sentiments? It is because I have a very close friend who simply loves birds. She travels all over taking photos and has signed up for numerous bird-watching clubs. She is a Republican, and I love her dearly. I also have a good Russian friend who shares similar environmental sentiments, and he is a Republican.
I now see it is not necessarily the party that separates us. Even those who choose more damaging policies over improvement are not to be attacked. I have learned that they just need to be embraced and educated. This understanding doesn’t diminish the actions of those who put all their efforts into gaining power and control, as they will do what they will do. However, in time, I hope they see that the policies and agendas they support are not necessarily healthy for humans and the planet.
I believe that attention should now be given to improving the planet while being tolerant and patient with those who do not necessarily see what we are facing and how it is worsening regarding our shared Climate Emergency. Placing one’s interests, needs, and selfish desires above all to obtain power and control is not the answer; I think it will work against our progress to evolve.
As long as we make our children the priority in creating a habitable, extinction-free, sustainable planet, we will be on the right track. We must expedite our efforts towards a Net Zero world as a necessity now.
Regards,
Have a Great Day!
Tito
