The Day After Elections: A Wake-Up Call for Climate Advocacy

Embracing Adaptive Resiliency to Tackle the Climate and Ecological (Green) Emergency

Shock and Determination

I am truly left in a state of shock after the recent elections. While the urge to self-isolate for a few days is strong, I have decided to double down on my Climate Justice Advocacy. These election results have been disheartening, but they also serve as a wake-up call. Leaders like Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz are truly amazing, and I will always support their endeavors, especially when asked. But now we must literally STOP and recognize that the Climate and Ecological (Green) Emergency now requires 100% of our focus and discourse, as a necessity.

The Power of Small Actions

There’s a saying: if you think a small thing can’t make a difference or an impact, try sleeping with a mosquito in your room in the dark. This metaphor highlights how even the tiniest actions can have significant effects. To those who choose to be divided into ‘us vs. them,’ which is extremely unhealthy, I want to explain why unity is crucial. By turning a blind eye to scientific reality—what happens to our atmosphere when an excess amount of CO₂ or methane accumulates—and relegating it to mere religious beliefs, we truly risk endangering our children’s future.

Climate change is not a matter of belief; it’s a matter of scientific fact. The overwhelming consensus among scientists is that human activities are driving global warming. According to NASA, 97% or more of actively publishing climate scientists agree that climate-warming trends are extremely likely due to human activities.

Facing the Reality of Climate Denial

The issue with climate denial and anti-science sentiments is that, often, it has to impact people directly before they grasp the gravity of the situation. Denial, until it no longer suffices, is a perilous path. If this new administration goes against what is needed regarding our shared Climate and Ecological Emergency—a crisis exacerbated by the fossil fuel industry, meat industry, and unethical wealthy individuals and families—we must be prepared to take action ourselves.

We’ve witnessed the consequences of inaction through unprecedented wildfires, hurricanes, and heatwaves. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns that without immediate, large-scale reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, limiting warming to 1.5°C or even 2°C will be beyond reach.

Becoming Climate Leaders

I am giving everyone a heads-up about our worsening Climate and Ecological Emergency and the possible lack of focused leadership. We all have to become ecological and climate leaders. I strongly believe this now. Each of us holds the power to make a difference—through advocacy, education, or altering our daily habits.

Subscribe to the ‘Basic Plan’ (requires approval) over at Climate Tribe after reading all my blog posts at exit235.com. Climate Tribe is more than just a platform; it’s a community dedicated to fostering change and supporting one another in our efforts to combat climate change.

Educate and Adapt

Again, to the followers of those who deny the reality of our shared Climate and Ecological Emergency, please educate yourselves about these crises and what steps you might need to take to improve both your individual and collective Adaptive Resiliency measures. Adaptive Resiliency refers to our ability to adjust to climate change—to moderate potential damages, take advantage of opportunities, or cope with the consequences. All of us need, as a necessity, to start thinking in terms of Adaptive Resiliency. Based on where we are headed, every step now must be measured carefully if we are going to save lives.

This means investing in renewable energy, supporting sustainable agriculture, and advocating for policies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It also means preparing our communities for the impacts of climate change that are already occurring.

Building a Community of Kindness and Respect

We don’t know what the near future is going to bring us. I believe we should at the very least have a place to educate ourselves by sharing with others and creating a network of like-minded friends—somewhere based on kindness and respect. This is what Climate Tribe is. What you do is your choice; ensuring you still enjoy the freedom to do it is my concern. I want to make sure everyone can learn productively, develop new friendships, and engage in meaningful dialogue. I knew there was a reason for having this venue ready.

Through collaboration and mutual support, we can amplify our impact. By joining together, we can share resources, ideas, and encouragement. It’s important to create spaces where people feel safe to express their concerns and hopes for the future.

A New Green Way Forward

We have serious work to do, and I excel at supporting on the back end (tech support). So please use Climate Tribe for your climate work, networking, and self-education. Let’s still have a New Green Way Forward. It is individual to each of us, even those who deny. Climate Tribe can be classified as a simple climate or eco-based club. See content at exit235.com for more details.

Our New Green Way Forward involves reimagining how we live, work, and interact with our environment. It’s about embracing sustainable practices in all aspects of life—from the energy we use to the food we consume. Together, we can create a future that is not only survivable but thriving.

Let’s Get to Work

Get the ‘Basic Plan,’ and let’s get to work. I believe Climate Tribe’s timing is going to be helpful for those with zero doubt about what we are facing. In regard to Climate Change Community LLC/.COM, I am going to do my best to run this company, no matter the storms ahead. My concern is our children, our biodiversity, and our health—which means tackling the two top emergencies right now.

Our actions today will determine the world we leave for future generations. The loss of biodiversity threatens the very fabric of ecosystems that support life on Earth. Health impacts from climate change, such as increased heat-related illnesses and the spread of diseases, are already being felt.

A Call to Action

I would strongly consider joining a climate organization right now, such as The Climate Reality Project, 350.org, Third Act, Sunrise Movement, The Climate Mobilization, Extinction Rebellion, or Fridays for Future. There are so many incredible ones now.

Tip: Do a Perplexity.AI search for a detailed and customized list.

These organizations provide platforms for collective action and are instrumental in driving policy changes. By joining them, you become part of a global movement striving to make a difference.

Conclusion

We are truly trying to save humanity from the damage done by greed, arrogance, ignorance and the need for power perpetrated by unethical companies and wealthy individuals who hunger for power or seek to maintain it. Preserving our planet, embracing eco-conscious choices, and fostering a harmonious coexistence with nature is not just an option—it’s a necessity. Let us reflect a deep understanding of the intricate web of life and the urgency of sustainable practices.

As environmentalist David Attenborough said, “The natural world is changing. And we are totally dependent on that world. It provides our food, water, and air. It is the most precious thing we have, and we need to defend it.

Final Thoughts

Your contributions by subscribing to Climate Tribe’s Basic Plan will not only enrich our collective understanding but also serve as beacons of inspiration for others on the journey towards a greener and more sustainable world. The journey ahead may be challenging, but together, we can make a difference.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for working alongside me and sharing your brilliance. Let’s embark on this journey together despite these new obstacles in our path.

Letter from Climate Reality Leadership, which our own actions now align with…

We’re still absorbing last night’s election results and what they mean for our world and our work, but here is what we know, Mr Alvarez.

We know an assault is coming on US climate policy and all the progress we’ve made in the past four years. And we will be there to resist.

More than ever, the world needs a global movement of advocates working to protect the planet and future generations. We’re redoubling our efforts to build it.

We must step up to counter the expected absence of US leadership on climate. We have no other choice.

Climate Reality is ready. We have been building a movement for nearly two decades just for moments like this. As a global organization, Climate Reality’s network will continue to push both back on denial and forward for ambitious climate action. From our founding, we’ve based our work in the truths of science. Today, science tells us that we cannot afford to delay. We will be here to speak this truth to power – no matter who is in the White House.

We have ambitious plans for our work in the coming years to ensure that progress in the transition to a just and clean energy future continues. We will continue to recruit, train, and mobilize climate advocates to fight against the worst impacts of the climate crisis.

We know political will is essential for progress. Just like political will, hope itself is a renewable resource. Let’s continue to embody that sentiment in the months and years to come.

As we work together to expand our global network and build our power, regional and local action has never been more important.

We need you in this fight.

Thank you for all you do,

Phyllis Cuttino
