Kindness in the Storm: Why Climate Tribe Was Born

Written September 2024. Updated April 6th, 2025.

Over the years, I’ve spoken with people from all walks of life—some skeptical of climate change, others influenced by powerful industries, and many simply unsure of who or what to trust. While we may not always see eye-to-eye, there’s something more vital we can agree on: kindness, respect, and compassion still matter—perhaps now more than ever.

I’m not here to argue. I’m not here to shame.
I’m here to build something better.

I’m honored to share that we’ve created a growing, welcoming online space called Climate Tribe—a developing community centered on real, human-centered solutions to the Climate and Ecological (Green) Emergency. At the heart of everything we do is one guiding principle:
Adaptive Resiliency, from the standpoint of both self and collective preservation—the ability to grow wiser, kinder, and stronger through global change.

Facing the Climate Reality with Courage, Not Denial

As we approach a potential 3°C rise in global temperature, we’re no longer talking about some far-off risk. This is here, now—and growing:

  • Hurricanes stronger than ever

  • Droughts that collapse food systems

  • Heatwaves that turn streets into ovens

This isn’t science fiction. It’s a preview of our future—unless we change course. Yes, I’m sounding the alarm—but with compassion, not fear-mongering. The Earth is not a battleground. It’s our shared home.

Even our pets, wildlife, and forests will struggle to survive if we don’t act now. The time for delay has passed. This is a call for bold action, led by respect, not rage.

Solutions Grounded in Kindness and Common Sense

Waiting for climate deniers or anti-science leaders to “come around” is no longer a strategy—it’s surrender.

Here’s what we can do:

  • Implement a carbon tax so polluters pay for the damage they cause

  • End fossil fuel subsidies and shift public funds into clean energy: solar, wind, battery storage

  • Transition to accessible EVs and smart, public transportation

  • Challenge the culture of excess, including unchecked luxury air travel, in favor of regenerative design

This is how we build a New Way Forward—one that values life over convenience, and people over profits.

Kindness Isn’t Weakness—It’s Strength in Action

Being kind does not mean being passive.
It means being brave enough to care in a world that often tells us not to.

In Climate Tribe, we hold kindness as a radical act. It looks like this:

  • Listening deeply, even when we disagree

  • Supporting each other through grief and growth

  • Celebrating progress, no matter how small

  • Rejecting cruelty, arrogance, and division

We don’t tolerate bullying, religious coercion, or self-aggrandizement.
We uplift humility, sincerity, and compassion—because ego divides and kindness unites.

Why Adaptive Resiliency Matters

Adaptive Resiliency, from the standpoint of both self and collective preservation, is how we prepare—not just for the next disaster, but for a better future. It’s not just about surviving—it’s about transforming. It means:

  • Growing food and restoring soil health

  • Conserving energy and water

  • Building mutual aid networks

  • Supporting science-based policy that centers equity

A simple act, like planting a garden, lowers emissions, nourishes your body, and reconnects you to the Earth.
Using less electricity isn’t just about bills—it’s about shifting consciousness.

To Anyone Who’s Been Bullied or Silenced

I see you.
I’ve been there—harassed, surveilled, and dismissed—for daring to speak the truth out loud.

Some days, I was afraid. Deeply. But someone once told me:

“Use their attacks as fuel to grow. Learn more. Rise higher.”

And I did.

Since September 2016, I’ve dedicated my life to becoming a specialist in Adaptive Resiliency. Not for applause—but for survival. For our children. For our collective future.

So if you’ve been pushed down—use it to rise.
You’re not alone. We rise together.

We Don’t Need to Add More Fear to the World

The world is already heavy with worry.
Let us not add to it. Let us be:

  • Builders of peace

  • Champions of unity

  • Protectors of the future

Recycle more.
Drive less.
Share what you learn.
️ Support ethical businesses.
Stand up for others—and the Earth.

We don’t need permission to do the right thing.
We give ourselves the authority to care.

Addendum: A Vision We Can Still Create

Picture this:

  • Local gardens flourishing with native food

  • Rooftops dotted with solar panels

  • Neighbors weathering storms together, not alone

  • Children learning not just to survive, but to thrive

This isn’t a dream. It’s already happening—if you know where to look:

Coastal towns restoring wetlands with native grasses
Farmers adopting drought-resilient practices
Youth demanding real change from leaders

These aren’t fantasies.
They’re blueprints.

The Ripple Effect of Action

Whether you switch to LED bulbs or help shape carbon tax policy—it all matters.

“We do not fight the Earth; we stand up for it, side by side with our neighbors.”
Fiona Summers, fictional grassroots leader

We’re not here to fight each other.
We’re here to fight for each other—and for the planet we all share.

Through kindness, clarity, and commitment, we will make a difference.

Conclusion: From Fear to Fuel, From Hurt to Hope

Let this be the generation that says:

“We chose kindness in crisis.
We chose courage when fear knocked.
And we chose action—when it mattered most.”

We won’t add to the world’s chaos.
We’ll be the calm in the storm.
The hands that rebuild.
The voices that unify.

Let us walk forward—together—with respect, heart, and the unshakable belief that we are the solution.

Thank you for standing with me. For believing in a better way. For helping us build it.
