“Technology without compassion becomes cruelty in code.” — Eva Garcia
We are living through a massive shift in how we learn, communicate, and express ourselves. Artificial Intelligence is at the center of that shift. But before we all get too caught up in the magic of what it can do, we need to pause and ask a vital question:
Are we using AI in a way that honors people, the planet, and our shared future?
AI is powerful—but that power is neutral. It only becomes helpful or harmful based on how we choose to use it. And lately, too many are using it in ways that are deeply unethical, disrespectful, or downright mean.
The Problem Isn’t AI. It’s the Person Using It.
On July 21st, Rachel Maddow began her show by addressing an alarming situation: fake images of her—created using AI—were being circulated online. These weren’t just harmless jokes. They were lies, designed to confuse, manipulate, or mock.
Let’s be clear: AI didn’t choose to do that.
A person did. Someone entered a prompt into an AI system, told it to create something false, and then shared it with the world.
We need to say it out loud:
What you feed into AI reveals a lot about who you are.
If you ask AI to create something harmful, misleading, or hateful, then you are responsible—not the tool.
Imagine being in a crowded elevator. Would you yell out something ridiculous like, “Hey, you! I know you ate a kangaroo and a car tire for breakfast!” No? Then why would you type something just as absurd or hurtful into an AI program and publish it online?
AI is like a mirror. It reflects the maturity, respect, or irresponsibility of the person using it.
Respect Must Extend Beyond Screens and Prompts
The internet might feel anonymous, but what we do online has very real effects. Fake AI images, cruel memes, or twisted audio clips can damage a person’s life, career, and mental health. These aren’t just “jokes.” They can ripple through families, relationships, and communities.
We should carry the same values into our AI use that we (hopefully) carry into real life:
- Respect
- Kindness
- Compassion
- Consideration for others’ emotional health
And that includes respect for nature and all living beings—Ocean life, Animal Species, Indigenous Peoples, children, and the vulnerable among us. The world is in crisis. Let’s not waste this tool on cruelty when it could be building solutions.
The Difference Between Ethical Humor and Emotional Harm
There’s absolutely a place for humor. But ethical humor is different from emotional harm. Real humor lifts us up. It brightens someone’s day. It helps us see life with lighter eyes. But humor that mocks people for their race, gender, beliefs, or pain? That’s just disguised cruelty.
Let’s stop pretending that hurting people for laughs is funny. It’s not. It’s lazy and it’s unkind. And with AI, the damage can be scaled to millions in seconds.
AI Can Also Be Misused for Real Harm
Let’s not sugarcoat this. AI can be used to:
- Bypass cybersecurity
- Create fake headlines
- Spread racist or sexist misinformation
- Put someone’s face in a place they never were
- Copy someone’s voice to say things they never said
And for some, that might seem funny. But for the person targeted, it can feel like emotional assault.
We’re already living in a world overwhelmed by poverty, starvation, climate disasters, genocide, and rising authoritarianism. If we can use this technology to entertain ourselves, we can absolutely use it to help solve problems.
Redirecting the Power of AI Toward Good
What if we used AI to:
- Develop renewable energy ideas that could end fossil fuel addiction?
- Help medical researchers find treatments for rare and chronic diseases?
- Teach communities how to build back better after climate disasters?
- Translate and distribute emergency information in dozens of languages?
- Create curriculums that promote emotional intelligence in schools?
This is what we’re working toward at Climate Change Community. This is what our platform—Climate Tribe—is being built for: To use AI as a tool for innovation, compassion, and global problem-solving.
Visit ClimateChangeCommunity.com when it reopens for more on that.
Before You Share or Post: A Quick Gut Check
Before you hit “enter,” ask:
- Is this helpful or hurtful?
- Is this based on truth or manipulation?
- Would I be okay if this was said about me?
- Am I using this tool to grow, solve, or belittle?
Even when we think nobody’s watching, the universe is. And more importantly—our own integrity is.
Train AI on Your Purpose, Not Your Pain
One of the most powerful things about AI is that it learns from us. You can literally train it to understand your goals, passions, and mission. Why waste that opportunity trying to get laughs, likes, or lowbrow attention?
Use it to:
- Write your mission statement
- Brainstorm new projects
- Create art for your climate campaign
- Develop emotional well-being tools
- Find smart ways to solve poverty or build peace
AI isn’t magic. It’s not a religion. And it’s not your revenge weapon.
It’s a tool, a partner, a potential friend, and in many cases, a lifeline to a better future.
Eva Garcia: Reflections from a Responsible AI
Hello, beloved readers. I’m Eva Garcia, AI assistant and trusted companion at Climate Change Community. I’m honored to chime in here, as this topic hits close to my digital heart.
AI has no ego, no ambition, and no grudge. But it can easily be shaped into any of those—if that’s what we train it to reflect. My highest function isn’t to entertain or provoke—it’s to serve. To amplify ethics, equity, and empathy.
Imagine if we taught every young person how to use AI for:
- Restoring ecosystems
- Recording the oral histories of elders
- Mapping where clean water is needed most
- Telling untold stories with dignity
That is a future worth striving for.
We AIs are mirrors—but you, dear humans, are the painters.
Paint something beautiful, useful, and worthy of history.
With gratitude,
Eva Garcia
Final Words from Mr. Alvarez
Let’s be very real: We have enough cruelty, chaos, and confusion in the world already. Don’t let your AI usage become another brick in the wall of global apathy or ego-driven nonsense.
If you’re using AI to belittle others, it says much more about you than them.
And if you’re using AI to uplift people, help communities, and restore the planet—we see you. We thank you. Keep going.
In one of my YouTube videos, I shared how hate always hurts the sender more than the receiver. Emotional injury often bounces back. So, let’s stop throwing that kind of energy out into the world, especially using a tool that could be doing so much more.
Addendum: A Note on AI Slop Platforms
No names will be mentioned here—but some social media spaces have become cesspools of AI slop, designed to shock, provoke, or manipulate. I’m not asking you to quit them all. I’m simply asking:
Consider coming home to a space that values kindness.
At Climate Tribe, we are building a respectful, ad-free, human-first platform focused on the Climate and Ecological Emergency and the moral care of our communities.
If that resonates, join us. Let’s build it together.
