The climate crisis is a hot topic, in part because the global temperature has risen by more than 1.6 degrees Fahrenheit since 1906. But the impending emergency isn’t isolated to warming alone. Climate change is also bringing extreme weather, wildfires, rising sea levels, and devastation for sea animals.
As a result, youth climate activists have gone on strike from school, taken to the streets, disrupted major events, and lobbied members of Congress to pursue action against the biggest existential threat to humanity.
Across generations, Americans see climate change as a crisis and consider it a major issue that needs to be addressed ASAP. For the first time, major presidential candidates are giving the issue the kind of sustained attention it deserves. And while we’ve celebrated the faces of the climate movement who have been instrumental in changing this conversation, there are so many other activists who have yet to receive the recognition they deserve — many of whom come from communities facing the most direct, immediate impacts of climate change.
