Young Adults/Children: This Planet Is Yours!

A message to every young person about the Climate and Ecological Emergency

Imagine waking up to clean air, drinking water you never have to worry about, eating food grown in healthy soil, and looking out at a world full of life — forests, rivers, animals, and people all thriving together.

That should not be a dream. That should be normal. And it can be.

But right now, our planet is in trouble. The climate is heating up. Forests are being cut down faster than they can grow back. Animals are losing homes they have lived in for thousands of years. The oceans are warming, and pollution is spreading through the air, the water, and the ground. Scientists call this the Climate and Ecological Emergency — and “emergency” is exactly the right word.

Here is something important to understand: this did not happen because young people made bad choices.

It happened because some powerful adults, big companies, and certain leaders chose money, power, and control over protecting life. They had the science. They knew what was happening. And too often, they decided that short-term profit mattered more than your future.

That is not fair. And you are allowed to say so.

The Earth does not belong to the rich

There is a quiet lie that some powerful people want everyone to believe: that the Earth belongs to whoever has the most money. That the people with the biggest companies and the loudest voices get to decide what happens to the forests, the oceans, the climate — and to you.

That is not true.

The Earth does not belong only to the rich. It does not belong only to the powerful. It does not belong only to companies that want to take, sell, and destroy.

The Earth belongs to all life.

It belongs to the forests and the rivers, the oceans and the deserts. It belongs to the animals, the insects, the birds, and the plants. It belongs to families and communities and neighborhoods. And it belongs to you — and to every young person growing up right now who will live with the choices being made today.

That means you have every right to speak up.

You are allowed to ask hard questions

Speaking up starts with asking questions — real ones, the kind grown-ups sometimes avoid:

  • Why are forests still being destroyed when we know how much we need them?
  • Why are so many animals disappearing?
  • Why are a small number of people and companies allowed to pollute so much?
  • Why do some leaders keep promising action and then delaying it?
  • And why are young people so often expected to stay quiet about their own future?

You are allowed to ask all of these questions. Asking them is not rude. Asking them is not “being difficult.”

Speaking up for life is responsible. Speaking up for the planet is brave. Speaking up for the future is necessary.

You are not alone

Here is the part that powerful people don’t always want you to know: you are not alone. Not even close.

Billions of adults around the world care deeply about your future. Parents and grandparents. Teachers and scientists. Farmers, doctors, artists, workers, and community leaders. People on every continent are standing with you, and many of them have been fighting for this for a long time.

They understand something simple but powerful: protecting the planet is not only about saving nature “out there,” far away. It is about protecting ourselves, our families, and each other, right here.

You are part of nature, not separate from it

You may have heard the word biodiversity. It sounds complicated, but the idea behind it is beautiful and simple.

Biodiversity is the web of life — all the different plants, animals, insects, fungi, and living systems that keep the Earth healthy and in balance. That web gives us food to eat, water to drink, air to breathe, medicine when we are sick, and rich soil to grow things in.

We are not separate from that web. We are part of it.

The trees, the bees, the rivers, the oceans, the birds, the soil under your feet — they are connected to your life every single day. In a real way, they are an extension of you. So when biodiversity is damaged, we are damaged too. And when we protect it, we are protecting ourselves and each other.

Don’t let anyone control the story

For a long time, some people with money and power have tried to control the story. They want people to believe that nothing can really change. They want young people to feel too small to matter. They want communities to argue with each other instead of working together — because divided people are easier to ignore.

But that story is not the truth.

The truth is that people change the world all the time — when they learn, when they organize, when they cooperate, and when they refuse to give up. History is full of young people who were told to be quiet and changed everything anyway.

You deserve a better story than the one the powerful are trying to sell. You deserve:

  • A story where communities protect one another.
  • A story where leaders actually listen to science.
  • A story where clean energy replaces pollution.
  • A story where forests, oceans, animals, and people are all treated with respect.
  • A story where no young person ever has to wonder whether the adults cared enough to protect their future.

The future belongs to you

So remember this:

The future is not owned by the rich.

The future is not owned by those chasing power and control.

The future belongs to you — to young people, to the generations still coming, and to every living being that will inherit this Earth.

So speak. Ask questions. Learn everything you can. Find your people, and work together. And remind the world, again and again, what truly matters.

Because protecting the planet is not only about saving tomorrow.

It is about choosing life today.
