Friends, readers, and fellow members of this community, I want to share an important update about what is happening behind the scenes with my sites, and what it means for the posts I have promised you.
What Is Happening
All of my sites that reside on the same domain, through the same hosting company, are now blocked on the back-end. In plain terms: you can still see and read the posts that are already published, but I am not able to log in to add new posts, make updates, or manage the content.
Now, look at my previous post. What is happening could be related to it, or it might not be. I make no assumptions. I will tell you this, though: we are in a world of trouble, and no matter how lightly folks take it now, the effects will not be so light.
A Lesson From 1995: Redundancy
When I started training to be an IT tech back in 1995, one of the first and most important words I learned was “redundancy.” In the technology world, redundancy means never depending on a single point of failure. If one system goes down, another is already standing by, ready to carry the load.
With that lesson in mind, I have kept some sites ready on the back-end for exactly this kind of situation. I did not build them out of fear. I built them out of preparation.
Why I Am Not Posting Here Yet
My hosting company is working feverishly to figure out exactly what is going on. To me, it is no surprise.
I have decided not to publish what I promised here at tito235.wordpress.com. I have experienced similar scenarios several times in the past, where a site was listed as “down for maintenance” for quite a bit of time. I am not willing to let an important message sit in limbo.
So when I am ready to share what I announced in my previous post, I will publish it on one of my redundancy sites and share the link only at the time of posting, or I will simply create a new site for it.
A Name Is Just a Name
Back in 2017, I knew something like this could happen. The domain climatechangecommunity.com is just that: a name. I could call it “grabmyshoes.com” for all that it matters.
A domain is separate from my mental file cabinet. The knowledge, the research, the ideas, and the commitment to this work do not live on a server. They live in me and in this community. The content will be every bit as important and viable no matter where it is hosted. And so, I continue to move ahead.
Stay tuned. The message is coming, one way or another. Reminds me of when we lost our ability to upload Adaptive Resiliency videos on our YouTube page (which we deleted and will eventually share these videos within Climate Tribe Social). I was able to post this update to Twitter but have now lost my ability to post to BlueSky. I am debating to just try again next year (after elections) sometime instead to share my ideas.
Thanks,
Tito
